Hallelujah. Thank God for Coffee.
In the Gospels, we see Jesus celebrating meals with people. You're invited to worship with us and then join us for buna (coffee). Food serves as spiritual and communal purposes in Oromo and Amharic society. We would like to get to know you after worship in the fellowship hall with a cup of buna and a piece of bread.
History of Buna
Worship and coffee go together
No one knows exactly how and when coffee was invented. However, we believe the Ethiopians discovered it first.
Coffee heritage traces back centuries to the ancient coffee forests of Oromia. There, legend says the goat herder Kaldi first discovered the beloved beans.
Kaldi discovered buna after he noticed his goats eating the berries from a certain tree. His goats calm behavior was replaced with so much energy that they did not want to sleep at night.

Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries. He found these unusual beans kept him alert through the long hours of evening prayer. The abbot shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and knowledge of the energizing berries began to spread.
Coffee and the Christian church were united together starting in Ethiopia. We invite you to experience a time of worship at Bethel and enjoy a cup of buna with us.
